14th December 1945: A landmark for Sai
On a day that would go down in the history books, India stood on the threshold of transformation, having struggled tirelessly for 200 years under British rule. As the nation teetered on the brink of greatness, Swami’s vision of a new era became a reality. On 14th December 1945, at 10am, the Pata Mandiram (now known as Kalyana Mantapam) was inaugurated in Puttaparthi, marking a pivotal moment in Swami’s journey.
The grand procession that accompanied this momentous occasion drew devotees from far and wide – from Bangalore, Madras, Mysore and the local population. The air reverberated with excitement as Swami, then just 19 years old, looked out at his future followers. This marked the beginning of a new chapter in Puttaparthi, which would last until 1950, when Prasanthi Nilayam was inaugurated.
