Nine-point code of conduct

Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba has given us the 9 Point Code of Conduct for
our spiritual and personal development:

  1. Daily meditation and prayer (as per one’s religious practice).
  2. Devotional singing/prayer with family members once a week.
  3. Participation of children in the family in Sai Spiritual Education (Bal Vikas Programme).
  4. Participation in community service and other programmes of the Organisation.
  5. Attendance at least once a month at group devotional singing organised by the Sai Centre.
  6. Regular study of Sai literature and the literature of all the great religions and saints.
  7. Speaking softly and lovingly to everyone.
  8. Not indulging in bad-mouthing others, especially in their absence.
  9. Practicing the principle of “ceiling desires” and continuously striving to eliminate the tendency to waste time, money, food and energy; and utilising any savings thus generated for the service of humanity.

The ten guiding principles

(Given by Sathya Sai Baba in His discourse of 21st November 1985)

  1. Love and serve your country. Do not criticize other countries.
  2. Honor all religions, each is a path to the One God.
  3. Love all without distinction; humanity is one community.
  4. Keep your home and surroundings clean.
  5. Help people to be self-sufficient. Provide food and shelter, love and care, to the sick and elderly.
  6. Do not tempt others by offering bribes or demean yourself by accepting them.
  7. Do not be carried away by jealousy, hatred, and envy at any time.
  8. Do not depend on others to fulfill your personal needs, you must be your own servant before serving others.
  9. Worship God, abhor sin.
  10. Observe the laws of the country and be exemplary citizens.
