“From this day onwards, our Sanathana Sarathi will lead the cohorts of truth – the Vedas, the Sastras and similar scriptures of all religions – to victory against the forces of ego like injustice, falsehood, immorality and cruelty. This is the reason why it has come into existence. This Sarathi will fight to establish world prosperity. The hymn of triumph will surely sound when universal Ananda is achieved.”
Speech during the launch of Sanathana Sarathi by Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba

Sanathana Sarathi, established in 1958, is a monthly magazine dedicated to Sathya (Truth), Dharma (Righteousness), Shanti (Peace) and Prema (Love), the four cardinal principles of Bhagawan Baba’s philosophy. It is published from Prashanti Nilayam (the Abode of Highest Peace) and acts as the mouthpiece of Baba’s Ashram as it speaks of important events taking place in His sacred Abode, besides conveying Divine Messages conveyed through the Divine Discourses of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba.

The meaning of the word Sanathana Sarathi is “Eternal Charioteer”. It means the presence of the Lord in every being as the atma guiding their lives like a charioteer. It implies that one who puts his life, the body being like a charioteer, in an attitude of surrender in the hands of the Lord, will be taken care of by the Lord just as a charioteer would carry the occupant of his chariot safely to his destination.

The magazine is an instrument for disseminating spiritual knowledge for the moral, physical and mental upliftment of humanity without any discrimination, as the subjects dealt with in it are always of common interest and universal appeal. The fifteen Vahinis – streams of sacredness – known as the Vahini Series, comprising annotations and interpretations of the Upanishads and other scriptures, Itihasas like the Ramayana, the Bhagavatha and the Mahabharata, and authentic explanations on Dhyana, Dharma, Prema, etc., have been serially published in this magazine as they emanated from the Divine pen of Bhagavan Baba. This magazine is published in almost all Indian languages, English and Telugu from Prasanthi Nilayam and others from the respective regions. Every year, Sanathana Sarathi brings out a special issue in November commemorating the Divine Birthday. The English and Telugu magazines are published on the 10th and 23rd respectively of every month from Prasanthi Nilayam. This magazine has a wide and growing circulation both in India and abroad as it introduces the reader to the philosophy of the Avatar in simple and understandable language.
