With hearts overflowing with gratitude to Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, the Silver Jubilee celebrations of the Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences, Whitefield, unfolded as a powerful reaffirmation that true healthcare extends far beyond the treatment of disease—it is the nurturing of holistic well-being of body, mind, and spirit.
A central highlight of this sacred morning was the focus on SPARSH—Sri Sathya Sai Preventive Cardiology and Rehabilitation Services for Health and Healing—a compassionate initiative born of foresight and deep concern. Medical professionals observed a growing void in contemporary living: even as medical interventions advance at an unprecedented pace, the fundamental principles of healthy living are often forgotten, leading to the alarming rise of cardiac events among individuals in their 30s and 40s.
Setting the tone for the session, Dr Reeta Varyani, Head of the Department of Cardiology, delivered an insightful address on “Preventive Cardiac Health: The Need.” She underscored the urgency of shifting the focus from cure to prevention, emphasising that timely awareness and disciplined living can avert a majority of heart-related ailments.
This was followed by a talk by Dr Nayanjeet Chaudhury, Honorary Consultant for the Preventive Healthcare Program, on “Preventive Cardiac Health: Implementation Strategy.” Translating philosophy into practice, he explained how SPARSH serves as a living bridge between hospital care and home-based wellness, empowering patients to take charge of their own health through structured rehabilitation, lifestyle correction, and sustained support.
In alignment with this mission of awareness and empowerment, the occasion also witnessed the release of three significant publications by Mr RJ Rathnakar (Managing Trustee – SSSCT), Mr ISN Prasad (Member, SSSCT) and Dr Sundaresh DC (Director, SSSIHMS–Whitefield):
- “Heart of Health”, a comprehensive training guide for Counsellor Coaches who selflessly dedicate their time to guiding others on the path of preventive care;
- “Sai SPARSH”, a patient-friendly magazine written in simple language to help patients and their attendants understand heart disease and embrace healthy lifestyle practices; and
- “Manohriday”, a Silver Jubilee commemorative souvenir that lovingly encapsulates 25 years of Bhagawan-inspired, free, universal, and value-based healthcare.
Adding a deeply personal and service-oriented dimension to the celebration was the felicitation of SPARSH Level 2 volunteers, whose dedication stands as a quiet testament to selfless service in action. Certificates were graciously presented by Ms Himavahni Rathnakar, acknowledging their commitment to carrying forward this noble mission of preventive healthcare.
In every healed life, every empowered patient, and every devoted volunteer, SPARSH continues to echo Bhagawan’s timeless message—Health is Wealth, and Love is the greatest healer of all.
