A Confluence of Surgical Excellence and Selfless Service
In a remarkable blend of national medical expertise and Bhagawan’s mission of love-filled service, the Urological Society of India (USI), in association with the Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences (SSSIHMS), Prasanthigram, is conducting a two-day intensive surgical workshop under its USICARES initiative on February 20th and 21st, 2026.
As part of this noble endeavour, about 50 advanced urological procedures, including state-of-the-art robotic urology surgeries, are being performed by some of the country’s most accomplished urologists. This initiative reflects USI’s longstanding commitment to academic excellence, outreach surgical camps, training programs, and expanding quality urological care across India, especially through service-oriented initiatives such as USICARES.
A Proud Homecoming
The program holds special significance as the current President of USI, Dr Keshav Murthy, was the very first postgraduate trainee of Urology at SSSIHMS, Prasanthigram. His return to serve at the institution that shaped him is both historic and deeply emotional.
Inaugurating the program, Managing Trustee of the Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust, Mr RJ Rathnakar, described the occasion as a moment of immense pride for Sai Institutions. “It is a great feeling that people who pass out of Swami’s institutions are today at the helm of national bodies. To see one of our own students leading the Urological Society of India is truly heartening.” Tracing the divine history of healthcare at Puttaparthi, he recalled how Bhagawan inaugurated the Sri Sathya Sai General Hospital in 1956, offering completely free medical care – interestingly, the same year the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) was established in the country’s capital. He further noted that the hospital, inaugurated in 1991, has consistently provided advanced medical care, free of charge.
A Dream Fulfilled
Addressing the gathering, Dr Keshav Murthy spoke with deep gratitude and emotion: “I learnt here not only how to perform surgery, but how to render genuine social service. I am what I am because of the foundations this institute laid in me in 1994.” He shared that this is the first USICARES program being conducted in Puttaparthi after he assumed leadership of the initiative. “It is a dream come true for me to return and serve the very institution that shaped me, not only as a surgeon but as a human being who understands the value of selfless service.”
Service Beyond Surgery
The USICARES 2026 program is more than a surgical workshop; it is a celebration of values. It brings together cutting-edge medical technology, national collaboration, alumni gratitude, and Bhagawan’s timeless principle of Love All, Serve All. For the patients receiving advanced urological care, free of cost, for the young doctors witnessing excellence in action, and for the Sai fraternity witnessing one of its own rise to national leadership, these two days stand as a living testament to how education, service, and spirituality converge at Swami’s Super Speciality Hospitals.
