Global Chinese New Year Celebrations | Day 1 | Feb 23, 2026

The advent of the Lunar New Year at Prasanthi Nilayam has, over the years, blossomed into a vibrant confluence of devotion, culture and gratitude. What began as a loving encouragement by Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, who welcomed devotees from East Asia to celebrate their traditional New Year in His Divine Presence, has today grown into a cherished annual offering. Swami not only blessed the celebrations but infused them with spiritual depth, reminding all that true festivity lies in inner renewal, gratitude and unity of hearts.

This year too, Prasanthi Nilayam transformed into a resplendent “China Town,” radiating warmth, joy and auspiciousness. The entire precinct was adorned in festive red—flowing drapes, elegant curtains and rows of glowing lanterns swaying gently in the evening breeze. The decorations beautifully twinned with Swami’s majestic red throne, creating a seamless harmony of colour and devotion; even the devotees, clad in vibrant shades of red, became a living extension of the festive splendour. In front of the Sannidhi stood a beautifully arranged altar, replete with traditional candles, fragrant incense sticks, fresh fruits symbolising abundance, and a graceful idol of Swami at the centre.

The proceedings commenced in the evening with a ceremonial procession, as traditional Chinese deities marched in with reverence into Sai Kulwant Hall, symbolically offering their obeisances. This was followed by the auspicious lighting of lamps and candles by the Chairman of the Sri Sathya Sai Global Council, Mr K Chakravarthi, and the Managing Trustee of the Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust, Mr RJ Rathnakar. Their participation marked the formal inauguration of the celebrations, including the launch of the commemorative Angpow and the traditional Rice Blessing Ceremony – signifying prayers for prosperity, harmony and shared abundance in the year ahead.

A deeply inspiring highlight of the evening was the address by Mr Teerakiat Jareonsattasin (Dr Judo), who shared heartfelt reflections on his personal interactions with Swami. Recalling moments of Divine guidance and subtle transformation, he spoke of how Swami’s love transcended language, culture and position. At Prasanthi Nilayam, East meets West, tradition meets transcendence, and festivity finds its highest expression in surrender at the Divine Feet.

Adding to the grandeur of the evening, devotees from Singapore offered a scintillating orchestral presentation, displaying remarkable musical prowess. The melodies flowed effortlessly from traditional Chinese New Year songs into soulful bhajans, blending cultural heritage with spiritual aspiration. As voices rose in unison and hearts melted in devotion, it became evident that this celebration is far more than a cultural observance; it is a living testament to Swami’s universal love.
