A Heartfelt Tribute to Divine Motherhood

May 6th holds a deeply reverent significance in the sacred precincts of Puttaparthi as it marks the Mother Eswaramma Day, a day dedicated to the loving memory of the Mother of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. Every year, the immediate family members of Bhagawan pay their reverential obeisances at the Eswaramma Samadhi, following a tradition personally initiated and sanctified by Bhagawan Himself. The day stands not only as a tribute to a devoted mother but also as a celebration of ideal motherhood and divine love.

This year too, the serene surroundings of the Samadhi were adorned with elaborate and beautiful floral decorations, creating a spiritually uplifting atmosphere for devotees to offer their respects. The Samadhi, which also enshrines the earthly remains of Bhagawan’s parents, became a focal point of reverence as devotees gathered early in the morning to participate in bhajans and observe the sacred proceedings.

Following the bhajans, tasty prasadam was lovingly served to the assembled devotees, spreading joy and a sense of sacred community. Devotees then entered the Samadhi enclosure, offering fruits, flowers, incense sticks, and new clothes, circumambulating the sanctified site with deep devotion and gratitude in their hearts.

Adding to the sanctity of the day was a spectacular display of selfless service undertaken by the Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisations – Andhra Pradesh. In a noble initiative to empower and uplift the underprivileged, 405 carefully selected beneficiaries from across the state received essential livelihood toolkits as part of a large-scale Seva drive.

Mrs Himavahini Rathnakar graciously distributed 200 sewing machines, 14 wheelchairs, and 36 jute bag-making kits
, benefiting 250 women, with an aim to foster self-reliance and dignity.

Mr RJ Rathnakar, Managing Trustee of the Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust, presented 111 pesticide spraying devices, 90 wheelchairs, 54 air-conditioner repairing kits
to 155 men, equipping them with tools to earn a livelihood and support their families independently.

This magnanimous gesture, conducted on the sacred occasion of Mother Eswaramma Day, reflects the true spirit of Love in Action, a legacy that Bhagawan tirelessly motivated throughout His life. It was a poignant reminder that the most meaningful way to celebrate motherhood is through acts of kindness, compassion, and empowerment.

As hearts swelled with devotion and gratitude, the distribution stood as a living testimony to the profound ideals of love, service, and humility — ideals that Mother Eswaramma nurtured and that her divine son continues to inspire across the globe.
