Opening Ceremony of Chinese New Year Celebrations | Feb 22, 2026

The sacred precincts of Prasanthi Nilayam blossomed with vibrant colour, rhythm, and joy this evening as the Global Chinese New Year Celebration 2026 commenced in a grand and heartwarming manner. Organised under the auspices of the Sri Sathya Sai Global Council (SSSGC), the celebration marks not only the ushering in of the Lunar New Year but also a sacred offering in the Centenary Year — celebrating 100 Years of Pure Love.

This year heralds the Year of the Fire Horse, a powerful and dynamic sign in the Chinese zodiac symbolising strength, vitality, courage, and forward movement — virtues that resonate deeply with Swami’s message of purposeful living and selfless service.

Devotees from Japan, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia — representing Zone 5 of the SSSGC — have arrived in Prasanthi Nilayam for a week-long spiritual sojourn, gathering as one family to celebrate the Chinese New Year over the next few days in devotion, gratitude, and unity.

In a delightful inaugural moment, Managing Trustee Mr RJ Rathnakar pressed a remote that set off a brilliant display of electric crackers, symbolising the formal ushering in of the Lunar New Year. Instantly, the festive lights illuminated the surroundings, drawing applause and cheer from the gathering and filling the atmosphere with exuberance.

The serene ambience was lit with traditional lanterns and charming Chinese lights, their soft glow mingling with the sunset. The proceedings were enriched by traditional Chinese devotional songs — melodious hymns that resonated deeply with all present, weaving cultural heritage into the heart of the celebration. Alongside this, powerful and rhythmic beats of Chinese drums echoed across the venue.

What followed was a heartwarming outpouring of happiness — laughter and smiles spread from face to face; chocolates and toffees were shared generously among children and elders alike; devotees exchanged greetings, good wishes, and heartfelt embraces, truly embodying the spirit of unity that this celebration stands for.
