Eswaramma Day Celebrations | May 6, 2026

Dedicated to the sacred and loving memory of the divine mother of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, the 6th of May holds profound spiritual significance in Puttaparthi, as it is observed as Mother Eswaramma Day. Instituted and sanctified by Swami Himself, this hallowed occasion is marked each year by His immediate family members offering reverential obeisances at the Samadhi of Swami’s revered parents. The day stands as a deeply moving tribute, not merely to a devoted mother, but to the eternal ideals of motherhood, sacrifice, and unconditional, self-effacing love.

This year too, the serene environs of the Samadhi were transformed into a sanctum of beauty and devotion, adorned with exquisite floral decorations. Devotees gathered in reverence and participated in soulful bhajans, immersing themselves in the sacred vibrations. Following the bhajans, sacred prasadam (pulihora and chakkara pongal) was lovingly served to all assembled. Thereafter, devotees entered the Samadhi, offering fruits, flowers, incense, and new clothes, and performing circumambulation with hearts brimming with gratitude and devotion.

In a noble endeavour to empower women and foster sustainable livelihoods, 60 advanced electric sewing machines were distributed to beneficiaries from across the state in Sai Kulwant hall, as a commendable initiative undertaken by the Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisations, Andhra Pradesh, in collaboration with the Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust.

Unlike conventional pedal-operated ones, these machines are electrically powered and designed for both efficiency and versatility. Equipped with interchangeable needles, they support a wide spectrum of applications from routine garment stitching and intricate embroidery to fashion designing and working with heavier fabrics. Significantly, they also enable the production of eco-friendly jute bags, a sustainable alternative that is increasingly sought after. This initiative forms an integral part of the Skill Development Program, aimed at enabling women to attain financial independence and support their families with dignity and self-reliance.

The distribution was graciously carried out by revered dignitaries, including Mr K Chakravarthi (Chairman – SSSGC), Mr RJ Rathnakar (Managing Trustee – SSSCT), Mr ISN Prasad (Member – SSSCT) on the gents’ side and Ms Vandita Sharma and Ms Himavahni Rathnakar on the ladies’ side.

In yet another touching expression of love in action, mindful of the intense summer heat, the Seva Organisations, in association with the Trust, distributed 45 large umbrellas and thermos water bottles to fruit, vegetable, and flower vendors who earn their modest livelihood outside the Ashram premises. Mr Rathnakar personally interacted with the vendors, enquiring with warmth about their well-being and health, offering the items with warmth and care.

Thus, the day unfolded as a harmonious confluence of devotion and service—an offering at the Divine Lotus Feet that beautifully reflected the ideals embodied by Mother Eswaramma, and lovingly nurtured and exemplified by Bhagawan for all humanity to emulate.
