TO BE CIRCULATED TO ALL SAI CENTRES & GROUPS ACROSS ZONE 6

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Jai Sai Ram!

RE: SERVICE OPPORTUNITY TO SUPPORT THOSE AFFECTED BY THE NEPAL DISASTER

It is with great sadness that we have witnessed the devastating natural disaster that has struck Nepal. Severe floods and landslides have caused widespread destruction across communities, resulting in loss of life, the displacement of families and significant damage to livelihoods.

At this difficult time, our thoughts and prayers are with all those who have been affected, particularly those who have lost loved ones, their homes and their livelihoods.

We have received numerous requests from devotees across our Zone asking how they can support and help the people of Nepal. This outpouring of love and concern is a wonderful reflection of Bhagawan’s message of compassion and selfless service.

In response, we are working closely with our Sri Sathya Sai Organisation and Sai Trust in Nepal to understand where support is most needed and how we can collectively assist the relief efforts in a meaningful and coordinated way.

Nepal and its people are part of our wider Sai family, and when one part of our family is facing such hardship, it is natural that we should want to come together and offer our support. Therefore, this is not simply an appeal from Zone 6, but an opportunity for all of us to respond as one Sai family, united through Bhagawan’s message of love and selfless service.

Working with the Sai Organisation and Trust in Nepal, support will be directed towards providing Seva Packs containing essential items for families affected by the disaster. Each Seva Pack costs approximately US$40 (for more information see attached document).

Devotees who have expressed a wish to help can support the provision of a complete Seva Pack or contribute whatever amount they feel able to offer. Every contribution, however large or small, will help us reach families who are in need of immediate support.

Those who feel inspired to participate in this service may make a contribution through the Sri Sathya Sai Organisation UK CIO:

  • Bank Name: Metro Bank
  • Account Name: Sri Sathya Sai Organisation United Kingdom CIO
  • Sort Code: 23-05-80
  • Account Number: 53871011
  • Reference: Please use “House number & Postcode only”, so that we can clearly identify Gift Aid applicable donations
  • All UK taxpayers are encouraged to complete the Gift Aid form linked below, where applicable. Please note that any excess funds will be used for Sai Organisation projects.

Alongside this practical support, let us continue to keep the people of Nepal in our prayers, praying for strength and comfort for those who have lost loved ones, hope for families whose lives have been disrupted, and courage for all those serving on the ground as the relief and recovery efforts continue.

The many messages we have already received from devotees wishing to help demonstrate the love that binds our Sai family together.

Let us now channel that love into meaningful action and extend Bhagawan’s compassion to our brothers and sisters in Nepal at this time of great need.

With love and regards,

Shitu Chudasama

Humanitarian Relief Seva

Background
Nepal witnessed a devastating crisis following series of flash floods triggered by glacial collapses
upstream in Tibet. The tide was 40 mtr high (height of a 13 story building) rushing with a speed of
180kmph (speed of a bullet train) that washed away in seconds thousands of homes, miles of
metalled roads, bridges, thousands of animals, electric power stations leaving no trace behind.
Fourteen hydropower projects have been severely damaged causing disruption of 800 MW in
power generation. As of 30 August, 2027, 900 human bodies have been recovered from the mud
debris, turbulent rivers downstream with over 12500 people still reported missing. This number is
beside the thousands villagers who usually don’t report to authorities the missing data. In all, this
heart wrenching catastrophe is estimated to cost around ten thousand human lives with more than
100 thousand people having been displaced and left without essential needs.
Immediate Response
The SSSSO Nepal responded immediately. Sai youth set aside their personal comfort and
left the very next morning with food and essential supplies for the affected areas. Items
included were dry food, safe drinking water, quilts and mattresses, clothing,
undergarments, utensils, medicines and basic medical assistance, sanitary napkins, etc.
Thus far, over 2000 families in government shelters have been served by SSSSO Nepal.

Future Plan
There are three stages in disaster management namely the 3R (Rescue, Relief and
Rehabilitation). Currently Government agencies are 24×7 involved in the rescue operation.
SSSSON jumped with relief seva packs from the day one. Post the relief phase, in the
rehabilitation phase, SSSSON plans to move forward with Soft Seva such as winter clothes,
maternity/birthing kits, etc. Once the winter approaches, the suffering of these victims in the
shelter will be worse. With Bhagawan’s blessings and cooperation of seva loving communities, the
organisation is committed to standing beside them with a plan to distribute 2000 seva packs. Each
pack contains the following:
Seva Pack:
 1 Double Size Blankets (local quilt)
 1 Mattress, Bed Sheet, Pillow with Cover
 2 Woollen Sweater (local) – 2 nos (male and female)
 1 Children Woollen Sweater
 1 Children Woollen Cap
On top of this, 3000 additional blankets, 1000 carpets (rug of size about 6 ft x 8 ft) and 200 kits for
lactating mother shall be distributed in the area. Cost of each Seva Pack: One seva pack is
estimated to cost about US $ 40. We plan to distribute 2000 such seva packs to the victims.
Distribution Plan: November will be the onset of winter in the affected areas. Hence, these seva
packs are planned to distribute on the occasion of centenary birth celebration of Bhagawan Baba.
